Audemars Piguet has teamed up with PMT The Hour Glass in Thailand to produce the “Pride of Siam” limited edition. There is a distinctive white theme to this watch that will appeal to some. What are your thoughts?

The “Pride of Siam” is part of the “Pride limited editions”. Previous prides include the “Pride of Russia” and the “Pride of China”. The “Pride of Siam” pays homage to the Royal White Elephant. White elephants have been owned by generations of Kings in Siam (now Thailand). Possessing a white elephant is regarded as a sign that the monarch has ruled with justice and power and delivered peace and prosperity. There is also a holy element to the white elephant as well. Given that white elephants are very rare, it is fitting that this watch is a limited edition of 100.

The case is that if the distinctive Royal Oak Offshore, however it carries the white theme through from the dial, hands, bezel and strap. The bezel is ceramic and the strap is a white crocodile strap with gold thread. An additional white rubber strap is also provided. On the caseback is a detailed engraving of the Royal White Elephant.

Audemars Piguet is a very popular brand in Thailand and works closely with various Thai charities and sporting events. Number 9 of this limited edition was auctioned off for charity in Thailand for 2 million Baht (AUD$66,700).  This piece is available exclusively at PMT The Hour Glass, M floor, Siam Paragon Shopping Centre. Please call them on  +662 -129-4777. However, I suspect these have been long sold out.

Audemars Piguet have also previously created a watch known as the “King of Thailand” to celebrate the King’s 80th Anniversary. The reference 15311SR.00.D088CR.01 is a two toned Royal Oak with the King’s Royal emblem on the brown dial. This is a true collector’s piece and would be very difficult to find.
